Hi all, Geoff here.. or still in Mexico actually, I'll be back on December 5th if you need to get ahold of Long Beach Radio for business reasons there's some contact info on the last blog post HERE
In other news it's time to send your Movember photos to movember@blackrockresort.com. They're running a photo contest that will be judged by yours truly and The Drift Spa's staff once I get back. The Prize? A facial to help sooth your post Movember razor burn and a bourbon foot scrub treatment. Your lady will love to see you all smooth faced (and footed) after a month of mustache madness. We don't really have guidlines for the photo contest judging but funniness will probably be worth a lot... We'll post the entries here on the blog when we announce the winner.
Also, you can still join the Long Beach Radio Movember team by clicking on the mustachioed logo to the right.
In other other news our 5th Annual Pacific Rim Hospice Society Radiothon is coming up on December 14th. It's a day when we celebrate the good work of an essential local service, raise money and awareness for Hospice and for me, one of the most fulfilling work days of the year. The blog post from last year's radiothon will give you some idea of what happens.
If you are interested in donating items as incentive gifts for donors to this year's radiothon please email or call Kim Hoag; kim@pacificrimhospice.ca or (250) 725 1240.
If you are interested in helping fill the day with entertainment we'd love to have writers, musician, comedians, story tellers or anyone else spend some time with us to get more listeners and more support for hospice. Please email me at geoff@longbeachradio.ca or call 250 266 2400 (I'm out of the country until December 4th, so if I don't repl before that don't fret)
I can't wait to get home and back on the air. I hope you are enjoying Cam's show covering for me.
Thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio. -Geoff

Even The Laziest Man In Town Needs A Vacation
Hi, folks! Geoff here... well actually I'm not here at all. I'm on vacation in Mexico and should be back for the morning show on December 5th
In the meantime, long time Tofino resident and local radio personality Cameron Dennison will be sitting in at the studio. Please be gentle with him, he's sensitive
I will potentially still be reachable via email at geoff@longbeachradio.ca
If you have sponsorship needs or business to discuss you should contact Long Beach Radio's owner Matthew McBride at matthew@mcmi.ca or if it is urgent you can call his cellular phone at (604) 220-8393
If you would like to contact Cameron about something he can be reached by email reverend_the88@hotmail.com or telephone at (250) 266 3134
If there is a local emergency requiring an immediate broadcast try to contact Cameron first
Otherwise it's business as usual, we may have a few more bumps and skips than usual but heck, this ain't no big city station.

Tofino's Mayor and CAO Announce Resignation
At last night's council meeting Tofino's Chief Administrative Officer Braden Smith and Tofino's Mayor Perry Schmunk announced their resignations on February 1st, 2013 and January 1st, 2013 respectively. It seems Smith has taken a job with the city of Winnipeg and Mayor Schmunk confirmed his resignation to us via Twitter this morning.
Perry also offered the following statement on Facebook:
"As a number of people in Tofino are aware, my employment situation changed on Sept 15th. Although I was committed to the role of Mayor, unfortunately my new employment schedule had to great of scheduling conflict with council meeting times and as a result I made the decision to step down. I am committed to a smooth transition, and will fulfill my duties until Jan 1, 2013. It has been a real pleasure to serve the community in the role of mayor. It has been an honor to represent every Tofitian. I wish the new Mayor (when elected) and the council all the best in the future.
Best regards,
Perry Schmunk"

I don't have any further info at this time but I'm sure www.westerlynews.ca will have a more complete story soon.

West Coast Multiplex Critic Cody Naples
A few weeks back Keith Gibson from The West Coast Multiplex Society visited the studio to talk about an upcoming referendum on the future of the development. In the interest of fair and balance coverage I finished the chat by inviting potential Multiplex critics to get in touch. Cody Naples of Ucluelet joined me by telephone November 6, 2012 and we'll be playing the following audio on the morning of Wednesday, November 7. Right after the 9am news.
Thanks for taking the time Cody. Anyone else who has a cause, concern or public issue they would like to discuss on Long Beach Radio is invited to contact me by emailing geoff@longbeachradio.ca

Cohen Commission Commentary
Last week The Cohen Commission released their report into the decline of the Fraser River's sockeye salmon stock. I invited some local interested parties to share their responses to the report. I was joined this morning by Bonny from The Friends of Clayoquot Sound and a written press release that Mainstream Canada published last week. Here's the audio;

Movember 1st, 2012
It's November, time to wake up with a hangover and a sugar crash to shave your bad self. November has been retooled in Movember for the purpose of raising awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. If you look on the right side of the page you'll see our logo with a mustache... click on that and you'll be directed to our Long Beach Radio Movember Team Page. There you can sign up to help raise money or just generally lark about.
We've also teamed up with Drift Spa At Black Rock Resort to give a great Marine Facial and Bourbon Foot Scrub to one lucky Movemberite through a photo contest! Simply email your Mo pic to movember@blackrockresort.com Also, this month Black Rock Oceanfront Resort will donate $10 to the Movember cause through the The Long Beach Radio Team for every facial! So check this vid out and tell me you don't want to get in on THAT kind of charity;
I've taken the plunge again this year and chopped off my greasy rocker beard to grow into my Mo. Here's the tragic and insanely narcissistic video;
Speaking of winning things, tomorrow morning's Friday Funky Food Hour we're giving away a ticket to The Mermaid's Ball during The Clayoquot Oyster Festival. Just tell us when and were (as well as other details if you like) you had your first oyster. You can email me geoff@longbeachradio.ca of find us in the usual social media places www.facebook.com/longbeachradio and www.twitter.ca/longbeachradio
