Jingle into Christmas in this Friday in Tofino SHOP LOCAL and Midnight madness is next weekend in Ucluelet... SHOP LOCAL

Movember 15th

It's Movember, and I've joined Tuff Beans' Movember team, raising awareness and money for prostate cancer research. Donate online at http://www.movember.com/ or in person at Tuff Beans... Don't forget to vote for my Mo!!!  Here's where we've come after more than 2 weeks of redneckification.

Team captain, Wade has a talent for mullet/ moustache growing and soup/ sammich pairing. Sadly his cel phone camera doesn't really do him justice.

If fighting prostate cancer isn't reason enough to grow a Mo consider this...

and, of course, the man that made the Mo magnificent

Meanwhile, in radioland, we've got some fun stuff coming up.  Ross Neilsen and the Sufferin' Bastards are driving through the storm as I type. They're playing Tofino's Dockside Pub in the Weigh West Marine Resort tonight and tomorrow night.  Master Bastard himself, Ross Neilsen will be co-hosting some of tomorrow's morning show so don't miss that.

Also exciting, Long Beach Radio will be live on location tomorrow from 11-3 at the grand opening of the new Westland Insurance office in the Shore on Main Street, come say "Hi" have some snacks and learn how to save a bunch of money on your insurance. (Also, you can come see my Mo in the flesh.... errr.... hair)

There's a quick update... if you're looking for any old interviews or whatever click on "Audio Archives" above in orange. I'll leave you with some audio from a past interview with Ross Neilsen referring to one of their first visits to the west coast, as well as some "reviews" of local hotels.  Thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio.

Also, it's still Movember so here's an update of my creepy Mo.  I've gone from looking like a 12 year old to looking like somone who can't be within 300 meters of a 12 year old in a matter of weeks!  Visit http://www.movember.com/ or head to Tuff Beans to donate to Prostate Cancer Research.

And, of course HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEIL YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big week coming up with lots of Canucks action. We'll be live on location at Westland Insurance on Wednesday afternoon, and Wednesday morning we'll have a bonafide rockstar for a guest host. Thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio.     Geoff

Tofino Paramedic Memorial Service

Today, 1000s are expected to converge on the Wickaninnish Community School field for a public memorial for Jo-ann Fuller and Ivan Polivka.  Eveyone is welcome to attend, if you are unable to make it and are in the Tofino region it will be broadcast on Channel 3 in Tofino.  Also below is the link for the webcam feed stream.

TO WATCH ONLINE CLICK >>>>> HERE <<<<

The Service is expected to start at 1 pm

There is a free shuttle service to carry you from either the Comber's Beach parking lot or Industrial Ave in Tofino to minimize traffic and parking concerns.

Out of respect for the ceremony Long Beach Radio will be making some small changes in our daily programming including not running advertisements during the ceremony and altering the playlist to avoid inappropriate content.

Please attend if you can, or watch on channel 3 in Tofino if you cannot.

Copied below is a recent release that may have answers to some questions;

Memorial Service for Jo-Ann Fuller and Ivan Polivka

On Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., the BC Ambulance Service will be holding a Memorial Service for our colleague’s Paramedic Chief Jo-Anne Fuller and Paramedic Ivan Polivka that were tragically killed in the Line of Duty on October 19, 2010.

The service will attract several associated emergency services agencies and personnel from across Canada and parts of the United States. We also expect a large attendance by local First Nations and neighbouring communities. In preparation for this service, a large tent structure is being erected in the playing field of the Wickaninnish Community School.

The BC Ambulance Service and the Ambulance Paramedics of BC – CUPE 873 extend an open invitation to all members of the community to participate and attend this service. Doors will open at 12:00 p.m.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early and utilize shuttle bus services outlined below in order to accommodate the large numbers expected to attend. While our intent is to limit the disruption to the community as much as possible, an event of this magnitude will regrettably result in some disruption.

Presently, we are planning to limit and control access to the following roads from approximately 11:00 a.m. until shortly before 1:00 p.m.:  Gibsons Street: access limited to all but local traffic from Highway #4 up to the School at Third Street, Fourth Street: closed from Campbell Street up to the school field and turnaround area, Campbell Street: closed and diverted to Main Street at Fourth Street through to First Street, First Street limited to single lane alternating traffic from Campbell Street to Garrard Road from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 pm. Traffic Control Flaggers will be in attendance.

Additionally, the following closures will also be in effect from approximately 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.: Gibsons Street: closed to all but local traffic from Fourth Street to Second Street, From 9:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m., local residents are requested not to park on:

o Fourth Street from Campbell Street to the school field turnaround area,

o Gibsons Street from Highway 4 to Second Street, and

o Campbell Street from Fourth Street to First Street.

Bus shuttles will be coordinated from the following locations: Combers Beach parking area leaving at 10:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. In the event overflow parking is required, the Long Beach parking area will be utilized.

Local residents requiring transportation can use the parking area across from Slegg Lumber on Industrial Way. Local shuttle service will begin from here at 11:00 a.m. The BC Ambulance Service and the Ambulance Paramedics of BC – CUPE 873 would like to thank the community for their tremendous and generous support that we have received throughout this difficult time

Thanks,  Geoff
